Old Timers Day at Wesley’s Chapel(for those who remembered).

Father's Day Breakfast

Wesley's Chapel was originally known as Stewart's Chapel and was in a wooden building down the road from the present location. Sometime in the late 1800's this building burned and the congregation was allowed use of the one room community school(later known as Blake). In 1904 a new two story school was built where the Blake Community Center is now located. The congregation continued to use this one room building until a new church building was constructed in the early 1900's. The property came under the ownership of the Sylvania Circuit of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South- North Alabama Conference. The present sand stone church was built 1949-1950 and replaced the wooden white church building that was built after the old one room school was torn down.

Reverend William Monroe Green was a Methodist Circuit Rider and pastored at Wesley's Chapel around 1900. He was born in Chilton County, AL 1860 and married Amanda Stewart 1902. He attended U. S. Grant University(now University of Tennessee Chattanooga ) before pastoring at Wesley's Chapel. Stain Glass Window is in his honor. Dr. W. S. Neighbors, President of Sullins College in Bristol Va., was the uncle of Ruby Scott Dawson. Stain Glass Window is in his honor.

Our minister, Jeff Adkins. did a dramatization today portraying Andrew in St John, Chapter 1, verses 35 - 42.

Bill Dawson rang the Church Bell this morning at Wesley's Chapel. Bill relayed the story of how the Church came in possession of the Bell. When the new Church was constructed in 1949, a bell was needed for the belfry. Bill's grandfather, Frank Dawson, was able to obtain the old Blake School bell. It had been taken down years earlier and stored in Cass Tullis' old barn. This bell had been the school bell for the old Blake School built in 1905. The new school was built in 1935 and replaced the old two story building. .

Ruth Hardman Akins with her daughter and grand daughter- Mother's Day 2016. Ruth at 98 is Wesleys Chapel's oldest member.
